Fanfare Contributor Bio

Jacqueline Kharouf

One of my earliest memories is one in which I am pretending to play violin. My mother plays piano and, when I was very little, she taught me to play her instrument, but I was always drawn to the violin and loved to imagine myself one day becoming part of a grand orchestra. Since then, I have studied violin with some truly inspiring musicians, including my current teacher who is a long-standing member of the Colorado Symphony. I didn’t (and probably won’t anytime in the future) reach a skill level that I could play in an orchestra, but learning to play music has been a joy that I would never trade.

When I’m not practicing violin, I write short stories and book reviews. I have a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Vermont College of Fine Arts and regularly publish my short fiction in publications such as South Dakota Review, The Examined Life Journal, Gingerbread House, and Fiction Vortex, among others. And when I’m not writing or playing music, I shuffle to my day job as a file clerk for an oil and gas company in Colorado.

I maintain a blog at jacquelinekharouf.wordpress.com; tweet profusely @writejacqueline; and sometimes post on my Facebook professional page “Jacqueline Kharouf, writer.”
